New York City Visitors Guide!

New York City is an internationally diverse city. Here people from a variety of national backgrounds and cultures form a melting pot that is characteristic of a nation known for freedom of expression and unlimited opportunity. A microcosm of the world, New York contains people of Greek, European, African, Asian and Latino backgrounds. Such diversity makes this city a fitting location for the United Nations.

New York City's land area is divided into five areas called boroughs. The five boroughs are Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Of the five boroughs, the Bronx is the only one attached to the United States mainland. The other four boroughs are or are a part of an island. Within New York's city limits there are 15 miles of beaches. The five boroughs are connected by bridges, tunnels and ferries.

Things to do and places to visit in New York City are also diverse and numerous. The city contains 18,000 restaurants, 10,000 stores, 1,700 public parks, 150 world class museums, 24 theater houses and concert halls, 13 television shows with live audiences, 13 golf courses and 4 zoos.

Seventeen (17) theater companies are based in New York and at any given time the general public can enjoy any one of 29 Broadway shows or 32 Off Broadway shows. During the summer, the city is awash in festivals and concerts such as the Central Park SummerStage, River to River Festival, Celebrate Brooklyn, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Charlie Parker Jazz Festival and the Good Morning America and Today Show Summer Concert Series.
